WHO ARE WE?

SNEHITHA, Gender Help Desk, Thrissur started to take cases from 23rd September 2017. Till 2018 September 30th total 546 cases has been reported. SNEHITHA, Gender Help Desk, Thrissur got toll free telephone number 18004252573 by 10th October 2017. Our prime objective of preliminary operation was campaign on SNEHITHA at district level with various Government departments, Kudumbashree CDSs, Colleges, Schools and Anganwadies. SNEHITHA District level Co ordination committee formed and it’s first meeting gathered on 21st October 2017. Official inaugural function was held on 10th November 2017. This program was inaugurated by honorable Minister K.T Jaleel. In the initial month of SNEHITHA functioning, we focused on CDS level campaign classes . Majority of cases were reported from these campaign programs. At present, SNEHITHA, Thrissur covered all 100 Kudumbashree CDSs.Atrocities against Women and Children are increasing alarmingly at local, regional and national levels. The UN declaration of the Elimination of violence against women is (1993) states that “violence against women is manifestation of historically unequal power relations between men and women, which have led to domination over and discrimination against women by men and to the prevention of the full advancement of women”.

Kerala one of the most developed states of the country in terms of human development indices, is unfortunately no exception in the matter of atrocities against women and children. National crime records Bureau’s “crime in India 2011” report point out that Kerala stands third in the rate of crime against women (33.8%). In spite of all the positive indices, Kerala is ranked high in crime and suicide rates.SNEHITHA, Gender Help Desk aims to enhance the socio-economic status of young, underprivileged women by empowering them with self-confidence and the required skills to enable them to become independent and contribute to family and society. SNEHITHA supports the women in distress to access the service of other institutional agencies to address the issues. SNEHITHA provides immediate help, shelter, direct and telecounselling, motivation and legal assistance to the victim of violence. Women and children are availing shelter as well. SNEHITHA is working on the principle of convergence, which is followed by a close interface and collaboration with the service providers and counsellors
